Businesspeople, students and relatives of residents can now visit Japan. Tourists can’t enter, but I’m expecting an announcement fairly soon. While you wait, here are some things to help you plan and get excited about a trip to Japan.

I've just spoken to a Japan consulate in the States regarding "kinship visas" for first-degree relatives (parents and children) of foreign residents of Japan: You can visit if your parent or child living in Japan if it says "long-term resident" (定住者) on their residence card. The visit can be social (ie, just to see them; it does not have to be for any medical or emergency reason). And, you can travel to other parts of Japan during your visit. I will post more details on this coming Monday's InsideKyoto page.
